No trip to South Carolina would ever be “complete” without a visit to Charleston, the “Holy City” and to the Grand Strand Area which goes along the coast from about Georgetown to just below the North Carolina line. Myrtle Beach is the most recognized town in the Grand Strand area. Pawleys Island is perhaps the most well known of the old family beaches.
Charleston is unique with its historical sites (Fort Sumter), Rainbow Row (Porgy and Bess), The Battery, and The Market. You just might be fortunate enough to meet a born and bred Charlestonian. Don’t expect to become a Charlestonian just by moving to the Holy City….you “gotta be born and bred “ there to have that distinction.
Changes are definitely seen as one leaves Charleston and goes up the coast to Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand. Once only active during the summer months, the Grand Strand is now a year round mecca for tourists and full time residents. It’s hard to pass up year round golf and professional entertainment shows, great food and then there’s plenty of sunshine that you just don’t have to shovel!!
